Compaq laptop keeps turning on and then off then on and off again?
My sister has a compaq laptop. She tried to turn it on today, and it turns on, says "Compaq", then turns off. Then, a couple second later, it turns on, shows Compaq, then turns off again. It keeps doing this. How can I fix it?

Try not holding down the power button to keep it on. Plus, it's a compaq. It's called a compaq because it was found in a trash compacter.

The best thing to do is reformat the OS of your laptop.get the hard disk cleaned up and then reinstall a fresh operating system. but before this the first thing you should do is repair the OS. get your CD and reboot using that CD and then repair.

Hi, It seems that the power on button on your laptop is broken down. It might be pressed, so please press it to ensure that it comes back to normal through a spring action. Another reason can be a Blue Screen of Death error in windows which appear for a very short time and then restarts your computer, however you would see a Windows logo before the computer restarts. You may consult an expert on this Regards Girish Gunjan

Hello I am considered an expert at this and I have scene this so many times. I am assuming by you saying t says compaq and then turns off again it is not even booting into windows. I am 97% sure that your power supply is toast. they can burn out kind of like a light bulb, they can be working fine and as soon as you turn it off and on again it can be finished. none of your files will be lost and you can have the power supply replaced at a shop in town.

Ok,, I dunno why no one want to answer you seriously. Compaq own by HP now... Compaq still exist but its made by HP Now I have Hp laptop as Media center and it also just start doing that. Me I'm a tech ,so no real biggie In my case the problem seem to be that the fan do not turn on ,as I power the laptop. Therfore the cpu overheat very quickly and the computer shut down. Before going there , try booting without battery , make sure the blue lighht is on where you connect the power to your laptop. Also try with only the battery Also try listen if your the fan or if its quiter then usual +

I would say, if it's under warrenty, call em. If not. DO NOT EVER CALL GEEK SQUAD! ever Ask your friends, for anyone that REALLY knows computers, and have them look at it. Offer em 20-30 bucks to look at it, and double that if it get's fixed. otherwise, you can attempt to fix it yourself, first try hitting esc, del or F1. If you are brought to a blue screen, go to the last tab (with the arrow key, move to the right) and select "restore default settings" and "save and exit" if it still does it, mash the F8 Key (repetedely) just after you power it up. if this brings you to a menu that has "safe mode" in it, choose the last menu item to turn off autoreboot on error, and then start normally. if you are presented with a bluescreen saying something along the lines of "STOP ERROR" write down all the 0x codes and go searching online for em.
