Compaq laptop is making buzzing sound and won't go to my homescreen?
I have a compaq laptop and it's making a lound buzzing sound. I'm kind of freaking out atm. It won't go to my homescreen. It just stays on the Compaq logo. I dont know what happen to it. It just started happening right now. I'm using a different laptop to post this btw.

1 try this. remove all cables from laptop(internet, power, printer cable), and any other device ( USB flash drive, iPod, everything) take out the battery, once the PC is with out everything press and hold the power button for 15secs(nothing will happen but it will release static electricity from your PC. try to restart again and lets see what happen. if that doesn't work go to BIOS of your PC and check settings, maybe run a Hard Drive Test. if everything its Ok there at the BIOS, check the OS try pressing F8 when booting up to go to OS options( can use Safe Mode with Networking or Last Know Good Configuration

i bought brand new compaq laptop and when i power on it says i should install so i pressed entet. . .it says windows starting for 1st time and it give me a message that expectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click 'ok' to re start the computer and then re start the installation. . .i tried inserting the disc and check bt how do you install it?

Why won't my Compaq laptop connect to my wireless router?
It has connected fine to the router at my father's house and connected to the router at a friend's house. However, at my mother's house, my new Compaq laptop (with Windows Vista) will not connect to the Belkin N Wireless Router. I have gone through the troubleshooting steps, have made it through the security, and have plugged it in (successfully) with an ethernet cable, but my laptop is unable to connect to the internet. Can anyone help me?

My sister has a compaq laptop. She tried to turn it on today, and it turns on, says "Compaq", then turns off. Then, a couple second later, it turns on, shows Compaq, then turns off again. It keeps doing this. How can I fix it?

Hello I am considered an expert at this and I have scene this so many times. I am assuming by you saying t says compaq and then turns off again it is not even booting into windows. I am 97% sure that your power supply is toast. they can burn out kind of like a light bulb, they can be working fine and as soon as you turn it off and on again it can be finished. none of your files will be lost and you can have the power supply replaced at a shop in town.

If you are brought to a blue screen, go to the last tab (with the arrow key, move to the right) and select "restore default settings" and "save and exit" if it still does it, mash the F8 Key (repetedely) just after you power it up. if this brings you to a menu that has "safe mode" in it, choose the last menu item to turn off autoreboot on error, and then start normally. if you are presented with a bluescreen saying something along the lines of "STOP ERROR" write down all the 0x codes and go searching online for em.

How can i re-install my wifi receiver on my Compaq laptop Presario F700?
I don't have the recovery cd for it, I want to do system recovery and run windows 7 on it. Its currently a windows vista and the wifi is not working. I want to just restore everything to working conditions and reinstall it with windows 7. I have tried system restore going back into earlier working times but no luck.By the way its a Compaq Presario F700 Laptop

Otherwise download on another machine and then install. hmm, I think the easiest thing to do is to go on Facebook Video Chat Rounds and just take a pic there -- http://www.rounds.com/facebook-video-chat/ You don't have to do anything with your webcam -- the Chat Rounds will detect it automatically and then just ask if you want to "allow access" and then just click "allow." :)

I have a Compaq Presario laptop that I just bought in August. It worked fine for awhile, but then it started freezing. It freezes at random times when i'm trying to do things like watch videos on youtube or search things on the internet. I already took it to the geek squad at Best Buy, but they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. If that wasn't bad enough, it now overheats all of the time. Does anyone know what's wrong with my laptop?

you have answered your own question. if a laptop is freezing up with nothing wrong on the software side then it is mechanical. since you said it is overheating that leads to a bad fan or heat sink inside the computer. either the video card is overheating or the processor itself is overheating. i would recommend calling the customer support if you bought it in august and letting them know that it is over heating and freezing up and a computer tech was not able to find any problems with the software. normally this soon they will either fix it or replace it.

Compaq is a really cheap version of HP's computers. My Compaq used to do the same things, primarily because I don't think Compaq's can handle Windows 7. Check your system information and see what performance you have. Presario's have a lot of issues because they are the cheapest from HP. I don't know what possessed you to buy a Presario, but I hope this helped...

The first guy is right but still i have to say I'm an owner of a Compaq mini 110c and im not impressed with HP's work on this machine I've had it less than a year and I've had to send it in about 6 times and its all ben hardware problems i recommend going for Dell or any other company for that matter

you are overheating the graphics card. Get a lapad or a simple fan unit to sit it on and it will stop doing that.

There's a huge difference between the cheapest and smallest laptop batteries and the more powerful ones. They usually run $60 to $150 and give about 500 charge/discharge cycles before losing capacity. You get what you pay for, and original manufactured batteries are often best. Your best bet is to use them only when you can't plug in so that they last. Otherwise, the lithium just breaks down a bit each time you go through a complete cycle.

My Macbook pro doesn't get 8 hours. Those specs you read are just marketing hype. Most laptops if you are doing anything serious on them will get about 3 hours or less nominally. If it is new, yeah you'll get a good charge, maybe for the first 2-3 months. After that, don't expect better performance. They get those numbers by turning everything you need off. Turn off Wireless, low brightness on panel, don't play any music, don't run too many apps - and there's your max battery life. It is worse than the MPG ratings on your new car. Batteries degrade. Even the newer Li-ION ones. They degrade faster if you plug / unplug / plug and don't follow the directions given by the manufacturer. As they degrade, it holds less charge for you to use. At some point it won't hold a charge at all. If you suspect you're not getting good performance from a battery, your best bet is to replace the battery with the "original" manufacturer one. And don't buy it from some weird place you've never heard of, and don't buy a after-market, that is touted as good as the original equipment. Always recycle your old battery.

There's a huge difference between the cheapest and smallest laptop batteries and the more powerful ones. They usually run $60 to $150 and give about 500 charge/discharge cycles before losing capacity. You get what you pay for, and original manufactured batteries are often best. Your best bet is to use them only when you can't plug in so that they last. Otherwise, the lithium just breaks down a bit each time you go through a complete cycle.

Well, simple ways for you to increase battery life: -Turn your brightness down to low. -Use power saving options in the power window. -Turn off unnecessary peripherals (such as wireless) if you aren't using them. You would increase your battery's capacity by getting a 9-cell battery, and they cost about $80 (maybe a little more, maybe a little less). However, you won't be getting 8 hours on a 9-cell battery. Maybe about 4-5 hours maximum.

My Macbook pro doesn't get 8 hours. Those specs you read are just marketing hype. Most laptops if you are doing anything serious on them will get about 3 hours or less nominally. If it is new, yeah you'll get a good charge, maybe for the first 2-3 months. After that, don't expect better performance. They get those numbers by turning everything you need off. Turn off Wireless, low brightness on panel, don't play any music, don't run too many apps - and there's your max battery life. It is worse than the MPG ratings on your new car. Batteries degrade. Even the newer Li-ION ones. They degrade faster if you plug / unplug / plug and don't follow the directions given by the manufacturer. As they degrade, it holds less charge for you to use. At some point it won't hold a charge at all. If you suspect you're not getting good performance from a battery, your best bet is to replace the battery with the "original" manufacturer one. And don't buy it from some weird place you've never heard of, and don't buy a after-market, that is touted as good as the original equipment. Always recycle your old battery.

Make sure you lower the brightness, set it to sleep if youre going away for a short amount of time, turning it off when you aren't using it, removing the battery if you have the ability to use the charger instead, and make sure you go to Power Options and set it so it saves power. Good luck!

So I am trying to clear everything and start new on my Laptop and erase everything. I usually know how to do this, but not with this Hp Compaq Laptop. I DO NOT want to System Restore, I was to Factory Restore.

If you have the recovery partition, use it to reformat your hard drive and re-install your operating system. Or if you have the O/S CD, insert it and reboot your computer and boot from the CD. This will start re installation of your O/S and reformatting your hard drive along the way. After re installation is finish, your computer is in factory setting, nothing on it but the O/S.

make a fresh installation, format and re-install windows. No other way unfortunately. Sometimes though some settings have a set to default button.

How do I connect these two computers to form a network?
I have a HP laptop and a Compaq laptop. How do I connect these two computers to form a network?
The HP laptop uses Windows XP Professional, while the Compaq uses Windows XP Home Edition. I would like to make a wireless network with these two laptops so that they can use the internet at the same time. Both have Bluetooth functions. I have only one ADSL modem and one internet account. Do I have to buy any "router" or any other gadget to connect these two laptops? Hi Chaitu, I did everything according to what you instructed, but finally when i try to view my Work Group Computers, a message saying "MSHOME is not accessiable. You might not have permission to use this network resource.Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. you can connect them directly through CROSS-OVER UTP cable, but you only have one LAN connector at each PC so you cannot get use of the ADSL. I prefer using simple router (with 4 UTP connectors) and link them both to it from one side and connect it to the ADSL link from other side. regards, :)

For your main computer (say HP) assign any IP address such as 192.168.1.2 3. For the other laptop assign 192.168.1.3 4. Type 192.168.1.1 in the "Default gateway" text box in BOHT LAPTOPS. Save the changes that you made. Now right click on the "My computer" icon. Click properties. Under the "Computer name" tab ensure that the name of the workgroup is the same. (its better to assign a workgroup name as WORKGROUP). Ensure that the computer description colomn has different names for both computers. Choose any name like Mike's laptop, Steve machine.. anything. Thats it! You are done. Open "My network places" and click on the "view workgroup computers" link on the left navigation bar. Even a "slow b" is faster than your broadband internet connection ( assume that you have broadband cable or dsl). most common router you will buy is a g now. $ 50 - % 75 at the worst. The signal to get internet travels 300 feet indoors and 1000 feet outdoors. Biggest problem by far is interference from neighbours routers that you may not even see. Chang the channel to 1 or 11 from the default channel 6. I am recommending a usefull program to you

chances are you only have 1 hard drive in a laptop, and it's partitioned into 2. as for replacing it, this is a little complicated... what i;ve done for clients int this case it to remove the drive and hook it up to my desktop using an adpter like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3012908&Sku=C250-3890 then, copy all the info/partitions to my desktop and then do the same w/ the replacement drive, only in reverse. however, a better choice is to first try to upgrade your ram and maybe even change some of your settings like restore, virtual ram, and swap file.

Your computer should have a headphone-out jack (3.5mm plug). Most computer speakers have a connection that supports the 3.5mm size. I'd check for this first (I don't know much about those particular speakers, I'm just giving generic information).

You will have to connect your computer's audio to a receiver that supports the speakers. S/PDIF would be the best way to line out to the receiver from the laptop, if it's supported. The headphone jack also doubles as the line out, I would imagine, so an 8th inch stereo plug to RCA (red white) cable is the next best bet. You won't be able to connect the speakers directly as the jack most likely does not have enough power to support them.

Make sure you got all the win vista drivers, other than that yes. Please dont do that, Win7 is rock solid!

Yes you can but why would you want Vista. Vista is full of problems. It unstable, slow, and full of compatibility issues.

I succeeded in not selling systems with Vista on it during it's lifespan - I sold machines with Vista licenses but with a "downgrade" to XP (the downgrade was pre-installed by the various manufacturers (HP, Acer etc).

Hmm.. I just bought a compaq presario recently and I think you shouldn't bother considering mac.. I know that it is a true eye candy but with compatibility issues may get along the way of doing it. The bottom line is yes, it can be installed but through hardware virtualization, thus it is not native. Why switch? 7 is a great OS so far.

My dell laptop has a connection problem with the battery and wont charge, so I am getting a compaq. My dell has 2mb as to the compaq only having 1. Can I take the memory out of the dell and put it into the compaq?

Can I transfer a RAM chip from a Compaq laptop into a Dell laptop?
Compaq Presario f700, Dell Inspiron 600m. I'm no so great with laptop computers so any advice would be helpful, thanks!

If they're the same type yes, RAM comes in PC, DDR, DDR2, and now DDR3 types. PC ram is outdated and you're probably not dealing with PC ram, DDR and DDR2 are fairly common, DDR is getting old now but DDR2 is popular, and DDR3 is brand new. Probably the easiest way to tell is just to try it. Take the stick of ram out of the Compaq and try putting it in the Dell. If it fits, chances are it works (they intentionally change the slot shape/size each time they make a new type of RAM so that the wrong RAM physically won't fit). As far as brand goes, it doesn't matter, Compaq doesn't make RAM, neither does Dell, they both buy it from other companies that make RAM.

I have a Compaq laptop and I know there is a way to restore the computer to the factory settings, erasing everything from the computer without a disk. I know that when you firts start the computer, you have to push one of the "f" buttons, but I am not sure which one. It restores it from a designated hard drive so no disk is needed. Any help?

As far as I know mine came with a backup disk. If yours didn't you could make one when you first buy it but it won't do you any good if you have had it for awhile unless of course it already came with it. If you don't have one take it to a computer repair shop to get it done professionally.

Bought a compaq laptop Norton Spyware keeps coming up does not let me in the internet what should i do?

Went to the add and remove programs and removed anything that had Norton spy wear on it. How to turn on webcam on Windows 7 Compaq laptop?
I have a internal camera on my windows 7 compaq laptop, and I can't find any way of turning it on, even after checking google and more. My computer came with CyberLink YouCam, but when I turn it on it says that the camera is not detected, and make sure it is on. I also tried looking under "My Computer", nothing there either. Any ideas anyone?

I'm not too positive on how a compaq laptop keyboard looks but I have some ideas to solve your problem....maybe. : ) Some keyboards allow the user to immediately select the "Prnt Scrn" button and an automatic screenshot of the current screen will be taken. Some laptop keyboards will require that the user has to hold down the shift key while selecting the "Prnt Scrn" button and other laptops will require the user to hold down the "Fn" function button (might not have) and then selecting the "Prnt Scrn" button. Give those a shot and let me know. Hopefully this was helpful. Have an awesome day. : ) If by any chance that your keyboard is not functioning correctly, you can install a software titled "SnagIT" and it will give you a limited amount of usage. I have a compaq laptop and it works awesome never had anything better! When i go on it one side is hot and the other side is cool. The laptop gets hot and so does the counter and it bothers me a lot. I have a cooling pad but it bothers me to much and it just circulates the hot air back into the laptop. Is there a program to cool my laptop? please don't have an answer saying i need to buy a new cooling pad or i can't help just deal with it. Please help me!

Maybe you need to check if you're running the latest Bios for your laptop model... An upgrade may help speed up the CPU fan if its a factory fault. Something similar happened with DV6000 series running AMD processors and the solution was a BIOS upgrade.

A laptop cooling pad can work, however, if the noise bothers you, there is one more thing. Tilt your laptop. I have a compaq V5000 Laptop computer> I have a virus. I was told to restart the computer. Once the start screen comes up to keep hitting f10. Compaqs used to come with restore discs. Now they come with a backup program to make your own. F10 will take you to the bios - that is correct. Try hitting F5, that usually starts a system in safe mode but will also bring up the restore program if you have a restore partition. Before you do that however, try using an anti-virus program to get rid of the virus (in safe mode) as restoring means that you lose everything you added.

Put the Compaq/Windows install CD (he one that came with your computer) in the cd slot. Turn it off, then back on again. It should prompt you to start the restore. Good luck! Get virus protection software. AVG is free for personal use.

One of the options would be to reformat your hard drive which would erase every thing including your virus. Then go to the boot section and set the boot device priority to be in the order of your CD/DVD drive first, then hard drive. Then save the changes and exit. This will continue the start up of your system but before it gets to Windows, you will see lettering on your screen that says "Press any key to boot from disk........" and then press a key. You will see the Windows set up start and just follow the instructions and directions and you should be fine. WARNING: you might want to make back ups of the files you need like papers and pictures because they will be erased with the Hardrive formating.

i have my step dads Compaq presario 3000 laptop. I tried reinstalling XP and it for some reason it did not format the hard drive :-(. One thing that it did do though is delete the wireless driver. i have already downloaded driver detective and it cost money which i dont have. Is there any way i can get the driver. also how do i find the model? all i know is that its a Compaq Presario 3000, thats all it says.

Compaq Laptop keeps on turning off
My Compaq Laptop keeps on turning off when I play an online game?
I have a Presario V2000 Compaq Laptop. I've had it for a little over two years. Just two months ago whenever I start playing a game that you buy at a store it turns itself off within 20 minutes. I've tried cleaning the heat sink but that didn't help. It isn't even getting hot either. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

How do I transfer video from a DVD camera to a Compaq laptop? Laptop does not have a firewire input.?
Compaq laptop appears to have an S-video input and some other polygon shaped input with a bunch of little holes in it. Why doesn't this Compaq have a firewire input like my Mac? I thought all computers have that.

Not all computers have firewire, and that includes some Macs - but that's a separate issue! DVD camcorders don't transfer video via firewire or USB - you need to finalise the DVD in the camcorder and then read it in your PC. Once you've finalised the disk you can't write any more to it.

Install a PCI card, if your computer does not support firewire so you will be able to use the firewire cable. You can buy one at an electronics store. And purchase one data cable from compaq store only which can support this data transfer.

I have a Compaq laptop, not sure which one, and I have been trying to find the writing application for a while now. If anyone has a tutorial on how to get to it, or something like that it would be gratefully accepted. I just don't know if I have to buy Office 2010 to write things.

So I dropped my laptop, and broke the hinge off of it. It worked fine for a while, and all of a sudden when I turn it on it has gray stripes that won't go away. So I connected it up to another Compaq monitor, and the Windows Xp loading thing pops up a few times, and then the light on the monitor goes from green to orange, why is this?

Compaq v2000
compaq laptop?
I recently bought a compaq v2000 and i have been tryin to establish if i need one of those wireless card deals..... this is what the computer says Its modem and Ethernet are augmented by an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 802.11b/g Wi-Fi radio, which has a lengthy range of 110 feet, but eats up about 20 minutes of battery life. OK i am at work and tryin to connect to the wireless and not having any luck. I think that i also need one of those wireless cards but i cant figure it out!! I know that the wireless is working here so thats not a issue. If someone couple tell me what i need to do... i have followed all the directions..... also when i go to connections... it gives me my connections... but none of them say internal just wireless network 2 and things like that... thanks to anyone that can help and i hope that i have not been to confusing

How can I get my Compaq laptop to recognize my mp3 player?
My mp3 player worked fine on my laptop. I was able to download music and put it on my device with no problem, it's recently stopped working though. The problem is not the cord because i've plugged in other devices to it and it works fine. When i plug in the mp3 it will charge but nothing pops up on my laptop. I have a Compaq laptop so if anyone is familiar with it and its settings plz help me!

Try to open the player's content manually: My computer ---> portable drive / device ---> add and delete files from it like a normal directory. (P.S - try a different usb port on your computer).

It could be because of windows registry problems. Download C-Cleaner and run the registry repair. You will get everything right in no time. If that does not work, maybe it is your Windows that is damaged, it happens after some months/years of usage, even just for typing documents.

Laptops get "laggy" if you don't clean out the temp files once in a while, defrag regularly, overload the memory, or fill the harddrive to more than 90% of capacity. Perhaps your friend's opinion is just that; an opinion rather than a fact. Ask someone with more knowledge of Compaq Laptops. They can be quite good if properly taken care of. Any laptop will get "laggy" if it is abused.

ok im just making a point here all labtops dont suck if u dont take care of them and do the proper things to them. ok compaq labtops are pretty good and yes they can offer more memory and other things u want to get with it. because i have a toshiba labtop and im taking care of it and its very fast. i also have a hp labtop and its great also. and my compaq desktop i dont take care of it sucks. so after time if u dont take care of it its going to suck over time.
