Can I open my Compaq laptop with out effecting my support?
My laptop has conked out but someone I am with knows they can fix it. I'm in the UK and bought it from PC World and have Techguys support. Do you know if I can open the back of the laptop and it won't effect my support or warranty with them.

You cant really judge a computer by its make, instead judge what parts are in it. If u list the speccs i can tell you more about it.

Depends on the specs .... there isn't a lot of difference in the Quality of the two companies products ... the price range though will determine the type of "extras" you get such as added features to screen quality and overlay

Yeah, it will. If it's slow also try uninstalling some programs you don't need from Control Panel. That always helps. If it's a problem like an everyday problem spending a few hundred dollars wouldn't hurt.

my laptop has so much stuff going wrong with it. i don't have much music or pictures, so losing those won't be a problem. i've had my computer erased before, i just need to know how to do it again. i don't have any CD's or recovery disks or anything. just need help. thanks!

The best and cheapest way is to use a set of recovery disc made for the lap top, you can order a set from http://www.compaq.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html by the model and serial number to install a new original operating system and use the original key code on the sticker on bottom of your lap top. Then you will not have to pay a repair center to do it for you for a $100.00 or more. If it is a newer lap top running Vista or Windows 7 you can use the built in system recovery, try holding down the Fn key while pressing F10, F11 or F12 at start up. This varies with makes and models to enter recovery partition. Check the user guide for your lap top.

How come my laptop, Compaq Armada m700, won't start up?
My Laptop turns on, but once it gets to the Windows XP loading screen, it restarts and goes back to the Compaq screen. And it repeats. This all started wehn i was about to shut it down by goin to the start menu, but it took too long so i shut it down by using the power button and the blue one. i cant even open up safe mode!

You're supposed to make the recovery CDs when you first get the computer. that way, you can do a factory reset. It might not be too late. If you can make the CD now, then do so. If not, see if one of your friends has the same model computer. My wife has a Compaq, which we need to reboot a couple of months ago.

I haven't heard of any option besides the recovery discs. Unless you know someone else with a computer that has their backup discs. This also means that you may not get the same OS that you had at first. Sorry.

Is there a bluetooth feature on the Compaq Presario laptop series?
My laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ50-130US and my parents gave it to me as a Christmas present. I noticed my friend's laptop is a Mac and has Bluetooth so she can upload pictures from her phone to her laptop via Bluetooth. Does the CQ50-130US have this feature? Try to adjust the ac cable (the one that is to be attached to the laptop end) until you can see the orange light in front (which indicates, the battery is being charged). Once you can attain that light, keep it in that position until the batteries are fully charged (the light turns to green). But first, you have to look at other things like the surge protector or maybe the plug is loosened or something.

If not you can call best buy and you can buy one from them and they will send it to you in the mail. It could also be you AV power adaptor. Call Compaq the will be more help if what I said did not work.

How can I fix it?
Depending on how I adjust the screen on my Compaq laptop, it's bright green or pink. How can I fix it?
I've had this laptop for a few years now. I am able to adjust the monitor to get the clear picture I'm used to, but only at an acute angle, which is very uncomfortable. Can anyone please help?

A similar thing happened to me a month or so ago with my acer laptop exept the screen faded. I took it to my local repair shop and he said the laptop had been dropped and a wire had broken. He fixed the problem for around £40

Compaq laptop V2000
Compaq laptop V2000 has no "hibernation" mgmt in the power options. How do I add it?
I reloaded XP Home on my Compaq V2000 notebook. Now I do not have "hibernate" as a power management option. Also, the function-key "sleep" button does nothing. Do I need to download a driver or an XP patch to get the hibernate alternative back?

Some of the keys on my keyboard on my laptop are broken, so i am currently using one ive plugged into the usb port, it would be highly convenient to set the new c=keyboard on top of the old one, instead of having it resting on my lap as i type. the problem is is that when i Type it pushed the keys below it and they interfere. how can i lock the laptop keyboard but still use the external one? i tried turning on sticky/filter keys but that locked both Keyboards

So, I've had that my compaq computer for almost a year now and I had no idea that there was a built in video camera in my computer, The tech guy showed me where it was but didn't show me how to use it. Can anyone help me out?? All help is appreciated! hmmm. your both helpful. So I typed it in and nothing came up. And theres not shiny little camera up top. Just this tiny black dot....Maybe that guy was crazy. I think I'll go to geek squad at best buy. Thanks guys.

You never noticed the little black shiny camera lens on the top of your screen? Ah well whatever. Anyhow there should be software on your computer that came with it, Open your start menu and all programs, you should find something like webcam or something related to your computer brands systems. If you are unable to find it, try opening your search bar and typing in webcam or video. You will find it eventually. When you do make a shortcut of it on your desktop to prevent the headache of finding it later. Good luck and have fun!

Screen went dim (no backlight) can see it fine if I plug in a monitor. I could see faint image if I shined a light on screen. I replaced the screen and the inverter, but the image is still very dim. Looking for ideas. The laptop was 4 days out of warranty and compaq wanted a minimum of 398.00 to fix it.

I want to get my laptop back to factory settings but I can't seem to get it to reboot or even to start up windows at all - no matter how many times we try it just won't reboot or anything and I don't have a disc or the original information about my laptop...

im not sure about your compaq but my sony vaio came with a back up windows in its internal hard drive. i think i had to kit the F2 key to restore to its factory state. read your instruction manual it should say

While your computer is loading at the very beginning spam F8 and you should be sent to another screen. Look around there for anything called or named ( restore or full restore) after that follow the instructions and when it actually starts it will take a couple good 3 - 4 hours. This is common and after that everything should be factory settings like when you just bought it. Best of luck.

Go to control panel and select "systen restore". You might have to do this from "safe mode"- during boot-up punch "F8" until it come on in safe mode.

a. Reboot your HP Laptop, You have to press F10 key when there is HP logo appears, press it until recovery screen. b. When recovery screen appears, Choose “Next†and You may have to select “Yes†to non-destruction recovery c. If you want to desctructive recovery, you may select advance and select “Yesâ€. d. If your recovery finished, your laptop will reboot automatically and you’ll get fresh Operating System in your laptop.

Example: Dell stores info to restore in a small partition and you use F11 to do a restore of the operating system. I believe Acer ships a restore cd. How do I install kingston RAM in a compaq laptop?
I was told by a guy at bestbuy this would work & would be easy to install but I don't know how to install it. Its kingston 1gb KVR667D2SO and my computer is a compaq presario V3000. I put the memory thing into what looked like where it went on the bottom of the computer, it had other things that looked just like it, but when I turned it back on it didn't recognize anything or say that I had more memory. How do I make this work?

uhm.. i sell lenovo, dell, and HP to corporate and enterprise companies everyday... i can tell 100% that lenovo is going down the drain in quality.. they have cut back so much this year... HP or dell is prefered

Compaq is aimed at a cheaper price range ($400+) which means cheaper quality parts (computer breaks easily, more often and usually costs more to repair in the end). Lenovo seems to be more of a business line of notebooks, from what I've come across anyway. HP has some really nice laptops starting out from $500-$600. They are usually very good quality - just don't expect help from their tech support.

I can't get my compaq laptop to go online. It will go on i-tunes and any of the instant messengers. I've tried to reset it but I can only find one from a week or two ago on there is there anything I can do to get my comp to work again. I want to use the internet and not my mothers comp all the time it says that its online but when I try to bring up the internet window it just comes up with a screen it says that not online.

i dunno...but did u check fi your router on your laptop is on? its the silly mistake...and how can the internet not work if you instant msg..work...try click on the mail icon...and it might work.

How do I repair a one inch crack in the outside top cover of my Compaq laptop computer?
The crack is located just above where the left hinge attaches the monitor screen to the base of the laptop computer. Fortunately, for now, it is only on the top plastic covering of the outside screen cover; but, I do not want the crack to spread. Any solutions to fix this without damaging the inside of the top monitor screen? Thanks for any help.

well first if it is dial up forget it because it not compatiable with most wireless. but i suggest a belkin wireless router and a external wireless card unless wireless is built in, but if u need a external make sure they are the same brand and the router should have disk to set up a wireless internet connection and the card should fit in though the slot on the side of most laptops and come with a set up disk so ur computer and recieve the wirless connection

My laptop was shutdown and when I turned it back on a few weeks later my screen is black, I can hear the machine running and I have lights on my power switch that are lit. What can be the possible problem.

The same thing happened to me. Your computer hs a virus or it can mean your computer is very old.And this is true because my dad knows a lot about computers.

I wouldn't say its a virus for sure, but it could possibly be. It could also be damage done to the operating system. I would suggest you back up the files on the hard drive and then reformat your hard drive. You can access the files on the hard drive with a device known as an IDE/SATA to USB Adapter (google 'BT-300 topmicrousa"). This device works very well since it skips the boot up system an goes straight to the files. Once you access the files, back up the files, reformat the hard drive, and recopy the backed up files. You should then be good to go. Best of luck.

It's almost impossible to bend the tip of the charger plug that's attached to the power cord. If that does happen, it can be replaced with a generic connector (assuming you can find the identical size). That's not always easy to find. More commonly, the socket in the laptop gets damaged. Replacement parts are available for a short period of time for those, but they often require quite a bit of work to install as modern laptops are built for low cost, not ease of repair.

I would agree, finding the connector tips and replacing them (which would also include you repairing it) is near to impossible since they don't sell those separately. Your only solution is to get a new charger. I would highly suggest you do so and stop to use the current charger you have because it is very dangerous. Hi, I had recently gotten this older version of a compaq laptop called a compaq armada 4131t laptop... It is a laptop with the battery pack inside the handle of the computer that can hold floppy diskette or whatever and such. Bios password to default on an Compaq 6710b Laptop
Can anyone help me on how to reset the Bios password to default on an HP Compaq 6710b Laptop?
I have an HP Compaq 6710b Laptop. It is booting but it cant go beyond bios boot and i cant enter setup as it is asking for a password. I have tried removing the CMOS battery but nothing works. Where exactly is the jumper located. People keep talking about hardware reset by moving the jumper but i cant locate them on the motherboard.

Not all motherboards have the CMOS reset jumper. On some motherboards it is a button instead of jumper pins or you may just have to remove the CMOS battery (looks like a button battery) for a few minutes.
2 :
if pulling the cmos battery out did not work try to find the clear cmos pins...there usually right by the cmos battery....just use a screwdriver to touch both pins at the same time...that will ground them out.and put bios to default settings.....then try rebooting again and see if you can get past the password screen........ if not i would call hp tech support and let them tell you how to fix the problem.....jmho Scott

there should be a FN key at the bottom of your keyboard hold that down and press the button with a sun on it. Typically F9 and F10 this should adjust the brightness. Some companies will also give you some software that will be in your start menu that you can use to adjust the brightness depending on if you have the computer plugged in or not. Some bios as well will have a setting where you can adjust the brightness as well.

Compaq Presario C740em
How do I reset my Compaq laptop to factory settings when it didnt come with any recovery disc?
Compaq has some sort of internal back up system, which is quite good i guess, but then you cant go back to factory settings with no disc, ive looked everywhere, please help! By the way, it is a Compaq Presario C740em - Thanks! Also, I think it is important to say: I never made a recovery disc when I got it, so can I not reset it now? Please tell me if I have naffed it.... =S

u have a built in recovery mode----- read ur user guide in ur start menu--that's why u didn't get any discs --- so copy all ur drivers to cd now ---u will need them thanks allyson that was not the site he wants ---the next time u post it u will be reported and that is why u won'y get many best answers

I get migraines really easily, and the light bothers me. I need to use the laptop because my school can't afford paper right now and all my notes, handouts, and homework is online.

at the bottom where the start button is at at the right you can see a battery icon click on it you will see these 3's balance power saver high performance the best ones will be power saver and balance in your case

usually you can hit the Fn key otherwise known as the function key and while holding this key press the up and down arrows. this will change the brightness

On my dell, it's F4 and F5. It's different for every computer, but it's usually marked by a little sun and up/down arrows. on some, you have to hold down the FN key at the same time. Another option is to go to Control Panel/Power Options/Change Plan Settings, and you'll find a slider to adjust brightness. Adjust, save changes and close.

Compaq mini laptop stuck on start up screen?
Hi, i have a compaq mini 110c - 1105dx laptop and when i try to turn it on its stuck on the compaq logo screen and i've tried taking out the battery and turning it off and holding the power button for 15 seconds. I don't know whats going on with it. it also did this a week or two ago and it took about 10 minutes to boot up and it was back to normal. Help me please!

You are going to have to bring it to someone for repair. If it gets stuck at that screen, and it has done it before, it is likely a failing or completely failed hard drive. You will have to have someone either replace the hard drive and recover the data and then reinstall the operating system.
