Compaq XP Laptop Keeps starting up and never takes me to log in page?
Compaq XP Laptop Keeps starting up and never takes me to log in page So first of all its a Compaq Hp Xp Windows Laptop. Had it for about three years. I never had this problem but here is what it dose. I turn it on and it works all fine until The Windows Banner is done loading. Then it dose it all over. Help me . I don't want to spend any money It says STOP:0X000000ED (0X83 55 FSD8,0XC0000006 , 0X00000000

Operating system has crashed or has corrupt start up files, use a set of system recovery disc made for the lap top and do a system repair or re install a new original operating system using the recovery disc set. If doing a full system install back up any thing of importance as this writes over every thing on hard drive and puts back to new factory OS. The recovery disc set can be ordered by model and serial number from Compaq customer support. Press F8 at start up to enter start options, press F2 at start up to enter set up, Windows XP does not have a built in system recovery/restore partition.

So, what happens when you boot it into Safe Mode? You know... you hit F8 when the Compaq logo goes away, then choose Safe Mode. Does it boot to a desktop then? Chances are, the computer is hitting a Blue Screen of Death Error at some point and the default setting in Windows is to restart the computer when that happens. It is possible to turn off this default setting from Safe Mode, so if the computer is actually experiencing a BSOD error, it will display on the screen so you can write down the details to find out EXACTLY what is causing it. Failing hard drives cause this kind of problem. Corrupt Operating Systems (from bad updates, etc) cause this kind of problem. Infected Operating Systems exhibit this kind of behavior. Incorrectly automatically updated hardware drivers can cause this kind of issue. So... first things first. Does it boot to Safe Mode? If the BSOD happens even in safe mode, there is a way to turn off this Auto Reboot... just know it is a little involved. http://www.technibble.com/how-to-disable-automatic-restart-for-bsod-if-you-are-unable-to-get-into-windows/ There are the detailed instructions. They involve downloading UBCD4Win (and links are provided), and editing your windows registry. Then, you can see what the BSOD is, and look up how to attack it. Of course, you can blindly just perform a factory recovery... but if it is a failing hard drive (and after 3 years, that is very likely), that won't solve the issue. end of line

How to remove DVD drive from Compaq Laptop?
DVD drive in my Compaq Presario 1200us can't read anymore. I just makes a clicking sound kind of like a dead hard drive. Is this fixable? I've got another Presario that is almost identical with a working DVD drive and I want to swap them. How do I get the drives out in order to do this?

There should be a releasing clasp for the Drive on the underneath some models require you to unscrew something then press down and remove. Press it down and then push the drive up carefully of course!! Hope it helps! Dont forget to Thumbs people up!

How do I sign up for my Compaq laptop 1-year warranty?
hey, i just bought my laptop about 2 months ago. How do i sign up for the 1-year warranty? Is it just by registering my laptop on the HP website? Or is there any other links that I have to sign up on to get the 1-year warranty?

If you bought the warranty at the same time you bought your computer then you already have it and it is almost certainly linked to the serial number on your computer which means you won't need any paperwork for it. You can call compaq and double check at 800-474-6836. If you didn't but a warranty at the time you bought the computer then you will want to contact 800-752-0900 and see if you can still buy the warranty. Hope that helps and good luck.

i try to start my compaq laptop but two Q's just come up?
when i turn on my laptop, a capital Q and a small q just come up on the screen, and i can't do anything. does anybody know how to solve this problem?
