How do i take pictures on my compaq laptop?
I just got this laptop for christmas, and I know how to take pictures from facebook, but isn't there some kind of program to take them on the computer? please helpp!

yeah, you can either download it. Or find on your computer. it says webcam.

Use YouCam : http://www.cyberlink.com/products/youcam/overview_en_US.html but there maybe some program installed in your computer. go to start menu->type in 'webcam' in the search box (bottom left) and you might get something. Hope I helped :)

Alright, this would be my first question, cool. Anyways, here's the thing, my teacher gave me a Compaq Laptop(He quit using it as he got another computer) but the thing is, I don't know how to do system recovery on it. I heard that you need to have CDs for to do system recovery but I didn't get any CDs as all I got was 2 floppy disc, a case, the cord that helps the battery from dying, and of course the laptop. And I don't get the settings where I press F8 and go to boot as when I do that, nothing happens. Help please?

So you're trying to completely erase everything off the drive and start over? Or just restore back like 2-30 days? If you're trying to restore completely, you'd need the recovery CDs from Compaq, OR a licensed copy of Windows XP, or whichever operating system your choice is. Hope this helps. -ABC. :)

if u r talking about the Presario T2330 Laptop go 4 it i bought the same one a month ago 4 449 u can put xp on them if u dont like vista and i can save u time there i have all the xp drivers 4 it i put 2 gigs of mem in it and it has turned out to be the best laptop iv owned and with xp on it it runs even faster and smother then i could have hoped 4 they also run cooler then any laptop ive seen to date

How do you make screenies on a compaq laptop?

I know on a regular computer your supposed to press the button that says Print Screen Sys Rq. Or something like that. But on my laptop I have one key with prt sc and the other with sys rq. I tried pressing both, it doesn't work. I tried pressing just prt sc, it failed. Same with just sys rq. I need help.

I did a system restore and lost all of my drivers. I have gone to the HP/compaq website and downloaded the driver for this laptop several times, once installing it says it fails. Does anyone know another way to get this driver? Thanks!

Battery on compaq laptop bad?
same adapter on one HP laptop charges the battery perfectly; but when charging the other Compaq laptop?
the charging light is always blinking, and always orange, never turn green, what does this mean? is the battery on compaq laptop bad? the adapter came with the Compaq laptop orginally, but i can use on HP laptop too. these two laptops are almost the same.

My computer has been acting really weird lately despite the fact that it's free of viruses. I've tried registry cleaning among a lot of other things with no luck. I figure the simplest option at this point would be to restore. By the way, when I got this laptop it came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7. So if I restore it, will I lose Windows 7?

try a system restore to a point before you started to have problems. That shouldn't affect your operating system. If that doesn't help, it may be best to do a clean install of W7. Back up your important files before you reinstall.

Tap F11 at startup for restore to factory settings. Yes, you will lose Windows 7. If you have Windows 7 disc, you can reinstall after the recovery. EDIT. Having said that it would be simpler just to reinstall Windows 7 if you have the disc, rather than doing a restore to factory. Just put your disc in the drive and choose install. If you use this method Windows 7 will save a Windows old folder to your C drive. I always delete this folder as it can take up a great deal of hard drive space. That`s - computer - C drive - program files - windows old - right click and delete. You`ll likely find that you already have this folder, as it will have been saved when you upgraded from Vista.

My monitor blew out on my laptop. Can I connect my compaq laptop to another laptop just to use the monitor?
My compaq went nuts. The screen is just a solid gray or light gray at times and I can hear windows running in the background. Any idea what it can be? I just assume it's the monitor?

try shining a bright light onto it, if you can see images then that means the backlight has blown(you'll probably need to take it to a shop to get it repaired if it has unless you're really good with electronics, i've built hundreds of pcs and i still wouldn't attempt to replace the backlight). if there isn't an image then the actual panel itself is dead meaning the whole screen needs replacing. mean while you could hook it up to an external monitor or TV with VGA (thats the 15 pin blue plugs) inputs though, i don't know of any laptops that have VGA inputs for the monitors though.

I have a compaq laptop with windows vista premiuim and i want to restore my laptop to the factory settings, how do i do it? do the system restore. maybe the system requirements of your game is not compatible with your system. or your computer doesnt meet the minimum requirements of the game.

You will see the option listed on your screen upon bootup, before the Windows logo appears....it will give you a Function key to press ie; F12 Cheers

The problem is that we never get the points as it clears off all your Yahoo answers/question so there's no way you can contact the the chap that gives you the answer...nevertheless, follow this, factory re set procedure, however, you don’t give a lot to work on but, here’s a stab at your problem this will not work if you haven’t a pre installed OS held in a secure partition. So, you have nothing to lose give it a go. Switch off your pc completely, important and clear the working area. I have an older compaq Presario v6000 and it randomly shuts off sometimes. It only does this when the power cord is plugged in so I can still run it off the battery. I tried taking the battery out and running it on just the power cord but that didn't work. My parents own an older HP that is doing the same. Does anyone know what might cause this?

check if the electricity works well when you plug a cord from a computer. but let me tell you something, check if your ram is full, is your computer is too full with alot of heavy softwares, programs, etc. this might cause that your computers shuts off by itself, it happened to me one time, and i took it to a tech and they repair it, the problem was that the memory of my computer was full AND I DIDN´T HAVE AN ANTI VIRUS! so that might cause you the problem too, virus can destroy your computer and sometimes completely. after their repair it which it took them about a week, my computer now is wonderful, is like a brand new computer. it doesn´t turns off by itself no more and is more faster. so check and see if that´s the problem. of course they did had to restore everything from my computer i lost some programs but then i install them again but it´s worth it!!! trust me don´t do nothing else or you will make things worse. i don´t know about your other HP computer it maybe the same thing or maybe not, but trust me let someone that knows about computers see your computer. is going to help you alot, maybe a little bit expensive but it´s worth it! if you don´t take your computer to someone else that knows about computers then you are going to crash your computer completely and then you´re going to regret of getting another one, and that will cost you more money than repairing it.

When I start my laptop, Compaq Presario?
When I start my laptop, Compaq Presario, it does not get past the startup screen, it does...?
...not boot even after restart? My laptop hangs on the Compaq logo screen. I have tried to reboot, tried taking the battery out, and have tried other electricity outlets. I also checked Compaqs website and still have to try removing and reinserting the memory chips. Any other ideas?

This does sound like a loose or damaged RAM chip or hard drive. I would take out both and clean the contacts before replacing

Sounds like it isn't loading the OS, but give a little more info please. First off what OS are you using? Can you boot it in Safe mode or in last known good config? if not, you may either have a problem with a corrupted boot, OS, or bios or a messed up MB or something (happened to my friend with his dell laptop). We can narrow this down a little later. If you can't get it to even show the screen for these menus, then it's going to be harder to fix. Try to hook up your hard drive onto another tower or laptop and see if you can boot into it. If you can, then it very well may be a hardware problem.

That sucks! I am sorry about that. If you don't have warranty on it and you don't want to pay lots of money to take it to a local repair shop, you might have to put in the CD that came with it and reinstall it. The problem with that is that you might lose all your data.

It maybe that your HDD has been disabled in yout BIOS settings, is there any reason this could have happened or failing that your hard drive may have died on you... How long have you had it? The other possibility is a corrupt installation of Windows but I would put my money on a failed HDD.

That sucks! I am sorry about that. If you don't have warranty on it and you don't want to pay lots of money to take it to a local repair shop, you might have to put in the CD that came with it and reinstall it. The problem with that is that you might lose all your data.

It maybe that your HDD has been disabled in yout BIOS settings, is there any reason this could have happened or failing that your hard drive may have died on you... How long have you had it? The other possibility is a corrupt installation of Windows but I would put my money on a failed HDD.

Compaq Presario 1240 Laptop Computer?
How do I open up a Compaq Presario 1240 Laptop Computer?
I am trying to get at the motherboard of a Compaq 1240 Laptop. I dont want to break it, so i will ask someone who knows what they are doing. I have a big computer toolkit. Trying to upgrade the Pentium 2 Processor to something better. Even if I can't change the processor, I want to be able to see it. I don't mind tearing the thing apart as long as it doesn't break permanently.

Ok you have to take out all the screws and there is screws under a lot of plates and everything so if you see its not coming off do not force it off

i don't mean to burst your buble but proccessors in laptops are non-standard and usually permantly attached to the motherboard.

Ok, I recently inherited one of those crappy things. My screen is busted but the rest of it is intact. I tore it all apart the other day, and here's how you do it: 1) Below the keyboard, where the touchpad is, that entire assemply snaps out from the sides using a str8 screwdriver. Careful not to pull the wires out, it will still be connected, unless you unplug it. Set it aside. 2) Slide the keyboard down 1/2 an inch, and lift it out, being careful as it is also connected unless you unplug it. Set that aside too. 3) After these 2 parts are off the top, the internal parts are easy to find and replace. The v.90 modem card is under the metal plate (4 + 2 screws to remove), along with the cpu. Repeat the steps in reverse to put it back together. Simple as that. No need to take out all the bottom screws at all, and nothing has to be taken out to do it. (leave the battery/ram/etc in place) Also, to correct the previous answer, this particular laptop model does NOT have it's cpu embedded, and it can be taken out via the slide clip. I haven't tried to upgrade it, as 266 is fine for most of the apps i run on it. I'm guessing by it's old age that it wont be able to run any other cpu's except the same speed/type. I'm gonna attempt it soon.. Hope this helps, contact me for more info on that dinosaur!

Compaq Laptop R4000
I just had to reinstall windows xp on my compaq laptop R4000. How do I get my wireless card to work now?
Windows didn't recognize it, and when I hit the "I" button at the top of the compaq laptop it won't turn blue. Oh, I don't have any of the restore CD's that came with it, I realize that doesn't help but there should be a way to get it to work again. The wireless card was built in to the laptop. Thanks for any help!

I had a similar problem with my compaq. Eventually I found another cd that came with it that fixed the problem after it was installed. I think it had the driver for the wireless card on it. If you don't have the cd, you might try finding a site that has the driver info to install. Try some websites like compaq or windows or the people who manufactured the wireless card. Unfortunately, I don't know how you'd find out the last one if you're computer isn't recognizing that it's there. Also, once upon a time I downloaded a printer driver from the windows website, so I'm pretty sure you could find the one you need there.

You have to reformat the hard drive first to erase the virus. You could also plug the hard drive into another fully protected PC and run a virus scan. That done, insert the recovery disc that came with your laptop. If not, obtain an OEM edition of Windows Vista Basic and use the product key found on the sticker beneath your laptop when prompted.

I've had a Compaq Presario C500 laptop for about 5 years, and it's become very slow, so I've decided that I would do a full system recovery. But in order to do a full system recovery, I need the recovery disc that came with the laptop, but as it happens to be, I've lost it. sometimes the company that sold the laptop, will put a recovery partition onto the hard drive, all you have to do if you have the recovery partition, is when the computer is booting up, repeatedly press f1, f2, or f10... or delete.. this will boot up the recovery partition, hopefully.

Finally, if you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2007 file format (.docx), here’s a possibility for salvaging them. Microsoft offers a free Compatibility pack that allows earlier versions of Word to read Word 2007 files. If you have access to an earlier version, this can at least give you back your documents. My compaq laptop shows that i'm connected to internet wirelessly,but when i tried to go to internet using internet explore, its says it can not display the page.i have a full signal on the laptop.what do you think i should do?

you should contact to your internet provider. These types of problem coming from service providers.

Simple! Quit using IE. Frankly it's rubbish. If you switch to google chrome or mozilla firefox you'll find your internet service will be much faster. In the meantime though, boot the computer in safe mode, and see if you can get onto the net. From there, try and download a spyware detecting program, such as Spybot Search and Destroy. Run this, and see if you can find some spyware or malware. This is likely what is causing the fault. If not, try and access the net from an alternative source such as wired to the router or a dongle and see if it works. You may have router problems.

I have a Compaq Laptop (windows XP) and a printer Hp PSC 500 which I was using with my old computer?

Go to Compaq or HP website ( usually www.hp.com), type in your computer model and you should see an option for your computer drivers there. download all your updates and drivers that you need for your sound, video, and etc... If that fails than that means your pc isn't compatible with Vista.

download the audio driver for your sound card at your computers website 'support' tab

You will need to go the web site of the company that makes your laptop and get a Vista compatible sound driver.

I went through the same thing when I downgraded from vista to xp. You'll need to download and install your sound drivers. You can probably type your compaq model into google along with: vista audio driver download, and you should be able to download and install the driver and have sound. You might also find that after upgrading, more of your other drivers need upgrading so that they are compatable with vista. you coul go to hp.com/support and look for a quick reference and download the driver for your sound device hp laptop would work fine with the operating system bundled with it. if your laptop is almost 90days old and you haven't created a recovery cd, and your in the U.S. you could call hp and they will provide you with a free recovery cd, this includes Operating System,Programs and Drivers bundled with the laptop. If you have a recovery cd, plug and connect the power cord to the nb, restart nb(notebook), keep tapping f10 before hp logo appears, in the bios page press f9 lo load default settings and select yes, insert the recovery disc, then press f10 to save settings and exit, as your computer boots up it will read the recovery disk and show a message press any key to boot from cd, press any key, then to do a system recovery just follow the on screen instruction, the process may take 1 to 2 hours, it will reinstall the Operating system first, after it is done reinstalling windows just let it sit because it will automatically detect and reinstall the programs bundled with the nb, the same with the device driver of the nb. if your nb is bundled with xp, it does not have a recovery partition if your nb is bundled with vista, it has a recovery partition, so to do a system recovery with this, restart you nb and keep tapping the f11 key before hp logo appears and then follow the on screen intruction to do a system recovery (all files will be deleted)

Compaq Evo laptop not hibernating though all the settings are right?
My compaq laptop (Evo N800c) used to hibernate very normally when i closed the lid. Off lately it has stopped. I have even checked the settings in the contorol pannel > power option > when i close the lid > hibernate, but still it remains in the in tehj standby mode. Please help me out I have XP service pack 2. The problem solves if i restore the settings of the laptop to an earlier date but the problem resurfaces after some time, Please help !!!

Yes, it can, just don't put your fingers where the battery is usually...You have to take the battery out and then just plug it in an outlet...

I think that it would start on AC power supply after chargeing and you also should be able to take out the battery and just us the power cord if not doing anything very important try it and see. But it should work

610 Compaq Laptop
Is it normal for my compaq laptop charger to have a blue light?
I just purchased a new charger from ebay.com. It is for my 610 compaq laptop. At first the light on the charger was orange and now it is blue. I cannot turn on my computer to check because the screen is broken and will not have a new one for another week or so. I just wanted to find out if the blue light means anything.

The orange light on an AC adapter or a laptop normal indicates that it is charging or providing power. Though I'm not familiar with that model laptop, it's possible- if not likely- that the blue light indicates that the battery is fully charged. My used to be in the in the taskbar notifications area like always , and now it is suddenly gone! Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to fix it? I have tried putting it back in the taskbar by resetting in the ' taskbar properties ' but it is still gone. I have Presario CQ62 Compaq laptop if that helps !

We are looking to purchase a laptop, we don't need it for much, just e-mail, some games, web surfing, and picture sending/receiving. There is a Compaq for $350, and a Toshiba for $450, the sales associate says the Toshiba is better, it has some more memory, but he also says Toshiba is better. I don't know if he's just saying that to get an extra $100 or if I should believe him. Any opinions on which one is better?

If I sell my compaq V2000 presario, widescreen and get it fixed (replace rubbed off volume signs, put new sticker on back etc.), how much is it worth? And what if it has Adobe Photoshop installed along with Antivirus protection etc.? It's pretty fast but it's one year old and there are better laptops now. That is too open ended of a question to give a good answer. For the most part computers do not hold value very well. The tech is moving so fast that they are out of date in 6 months - as far as being on leading edge. Anyway, would need more details about the machine to give a more precise answer.

That is too open ended of a question to give a good answer. For the most part computers do not hold value very well. The tech is moving so fast that they are out of date in 6 months - as far as being on leading edge. Anyway, would need more details about the machine to give a more precise answer.

I can get a pretty good idea of value from eBay...the WorldWide Garage Sale! Make sure you are comparing apples to apples (bad comparison!) Check recently sold and auctions about to end. Don't bother with listings that have no bids...they are usually dreaming. A Compac can hold its own next to its sister the HP, or a basic Dell. Bottom line--it's worth what someone will pay you for it!

I have a Compaq laptop and I have forgotten the password for the main screen and I was wondering if there was anyway around it so I could reset the password? I didnt set the correct password hint when I got the computer 6 months ago. PLEASE HELP..

At booting there should be an option that shows PRESS F2.Try pressing it and then reconfigure the password settings there.

A vga to RCA hookup would give a crappy picture even if you could find such a cable. How about vga to vga. You should have it on the tv and the laptop. Hook it up like a computer to a monitor. You may have to go into your display setting in your control panel and turn on display 2.

My Compaq laptop is randomly shutting down?
I have been having problems with my laptop randomly shutting down. It's a Compaq model CQ60-423DX. It has always gotten really hot, and I am wondering if it isn't overheating. I haven't even had it for a year, but yeah. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong and what I can do about it?

yes it maybe that your computer is overheating and is shutting down to help prevent it from destroying its self. You may want to set it to a lower setting or you may want to keep it properly ventilated. Try keeping the vent for it open.
2 :
Do you hear the fans come on at all? If a fan isn't coming on it will cause overheating. Also, even if they are coming on if one is clogged with dust it won't do enough to cool everything down. Flip over your laptop and look at the fan on the bottom, make sure it's clean.

Can I replace a usb port in a compaq laptop?
Can I replace a usb port in a compaq laptop?
I had a power surge on my usb port and it won't reset. The other port has moved inside the laptop and can't be used (apparently it broke off the leads, i think) what are my options. Can I replace the usb ports? Soldering? I have a compaq inspirion 8200. Help I do have an extension usb hub...but know i don't have a working usb port to plug into. See my dilema

You can but it would be costly. I suggest you buy those 5 in one usb ports. They hook up to one usb port and give you five extras.

Is there a way to use HP recovery on a different compaq laptop?
Is there a way to use HP recovery on a different compaq laptop?
My laptop recently died, and I'm trying to resuscitate it by reformatting. However, I lost the original compaq service pack CD 2. I have an HP pavilion, but the recovery system is in the hard drive. Can I put all the files on an external HD, then plug the external HD into my laptop and boot fromt here to reformat? If not, would it be possible to copy the windows file under program files to an external HD, then boot from that? As a last resort: if none of these are possible, can I at least borrow someone else's service Pack 2 CD (from Dell, not compaq) and use it to reformat? I tried to reformat with a win2K CD I found lying around, but my hardware is not compatible. Help, PLEASE!!!

No. It won't work. It will sense that the computer is different and refuse to load it.

I have a Compaq laptop and when i insert the DVD into the drive it comes up with the little disc sign near the cursor to say its reading the disc but then nothing - nothing happens, no windows open, no error messages nothing - anyone know what i can do to solve this problem? Thanks :D x
