What about the G network does it work with a/b/n/g compaq laptop network?

What about the G network does it work with a/b/n/g compaq laptop network?
i get it some say that A network is kind of a obsolete as a network i need a internal and external answer about how a wireless connection works with a wireless router as a laptop network connectivity.does it connect and work in far away areas?

n is the newest standard and can travel further and be used by more devices.

Here is the breakdown, and no "a" is not obsolete nor is it the oldest either. The 802.11a is on 5,8ghz band. In many cases it will work better than the others as there is less interference in that range. All the others are on the 2.4 band b.g.n (n also may be dual banded and thus is actually a 2.4 and 5.8) there are routers for any of these. B is the slowest standard at 11mbs, G is at 54mbs, N can be 200 or above depending on the manufacturer. N is very nearly a finished standard but has not yet been "confirmed" - it should be shortly.
