How much is a used compaq laptop worth?
If I sell my compaq V2000 presario, widescreen and get it fixed (replace rubbed off volume signs, put new sticker on back etc.), how much is it worth? And what if it has Adobe Photoshop installed along with Antivirus protection etc.? It's pretty fast but it's one year old and there are better laptops now. Its almost as if it were just bought from the store but with Norton Antivirus, All microsoft applications, adobe photoshop and highspeed internet.

That is too open ended of a question to give a good answer. For the most part computers do not hold value very well. The tech is moving so fast that they are out of date in 6 months - as far as being on leading edge. Anyway, would need more details about the machine to give a more precise answer.

You can check with a pawn shop, but they will probably offer you less than it's worth.

The value of laptop goes down by around 75% in the first year due to the battery life, obsolescence etc. The depreciation thereafter will depend on the general reduction in prices of new products available then in addition to around 10% for age.

I can get a pretty good idea of value from eBay...the WorldWide Garage Sale! Make sure you are comparing apples to apples (bad comparison!) Check recently sold and auctions about to end. Don't bother with listings that have no bids...they are usually dreaming. A Compac can hold its own next to its sister the HP, or a basic Dell. Bottom line--it's worth what someone will pay you for it!
